Realising potential through partnership

Bob Wintringham

I have been an active member of Faringdon Community College Governing Body for over 25 years, and, until academy conversion, the Chair for over 20 years. My professional mechanical engineering career centred on the automotive, and latterly, the rail industry in a variety of senior roles across the UK. During this time, I learnt a lot about management, leadership and the development of more efficient and lean manufacturing techniques, which together with a desire to put something back into the community, led him to become a school governor in 1988.
In the early 90’s, I became involved in planning and delivering the first set of consolidated Governor training packages for Oxfordshire – which has now developed into the national course we use today. Since I retired from full time employment in 2004, I expanded my interest in Education. I developed and ran a wide range of governor training courses across Oxfordshire and beyond, often acting as a mentor to governing bodies in difficulties. At the request of the local authority, I have also led a number of interim governing bodies of special measures schools and successfully converted them to Academies as good schools.
As a founder member of the Faringdon Academy of Schools, I feel privileged to have seen the Academy grow into a successful, efficient and effective group of schools, who share and develop joint best practice, not just for FAoS, but across Oxfordshire.
